Girls! Being a girl absolutely rocks. The sidewalk is our daily runway, we live longer then our male counterparts, our hairstyle can change at a moment's notice, we don't have to wear pants, but we can wear our boyfriend's clothes, and most importantly, Beyonce is one.
Last Thursday I had the pleasure of surrounding myself with some other pretty incredible ladies. I spent the day attending the ASHA convention, the national conference for Speech- Language Pathologists (my day job!). In such a female dominated profession, it was truly awe inspiring to see the brilliance of my colleagues, sharing their innovative ideas and research. I left feeling so motivated! By night I was schmoozing with some amazing female Chicago writers, at the She Writes Chicago event supporting My Three Sisters Literacy Initiative and Charity4Life. Accompanied by my bestie, we met so many fabulous and creative ladies. It was so much fun finally connecting with the voices behind some of my favorite local blogs.
In today's world of housewives featuring competitive, confrontational women, who love to tear each other down, it was a welcomed breath of fresh air to see women doing big things and truly supporting one another. In the words of the queen B Beyonce, "Who run this mother? Girls!"
