LA based roots rockers Whispering Pines are blessed with four songwriters. As a rule, the one who wrote the tune wil sing it. Steeped in the music tradition of the Early Seventies they mix rock, country and a bit of soul on their second full-length. They describes themselves a a soulful backporch rock 'n' roll band. Their songs evolve around a crystal clear guitar sound - it's all analog kids, remember that. They touch base with the Allman Brothers, The Band (the album is dedicated to Levon Helm), Manassas and George Harrison's solo albums.
Whispering Pines is an album that respects the tradition, but the band is no a tribute act. They want to move move forward. Plagiarism doens't get you anywhere, great songwriting, and being tight but loose does. They have the hooks and the melodies, all they need is a break. With songs like the rocker Love Is Free the blues stomper Fine Time and the country honk of Broken Spoke (with the vocals of Amy Blaschke as an added bonus), this an album is must have for fans of good time music with serious lyrics.
