Short answer? No time soon. Even if you live in a place where they are beginning to ease restrictions, that does not mean you'll be heading to bottomless brunch anytime soon. If you are currently working from home, you'll probably be there for a quite some time (if it's been working). So, what exactly are we shopping for?
I'm not going to say that summer is definitely a wash. If and when we are out and about again, I'm not sure how much of summer will be left though. A huge haul on summer clothes might be a waste. You'd be better off wearing clothes you already own or considering a rental service like Rent the Runway.
Fall is a possibility, but there is also a possibility of a second wave. So, you may do a big haul only to find out that you need to go back to sheltering in place. This virus is so unpredictable that there's just no way to know for sure.
Personally, I am not shopping until it is okay to go mask free in public again. That's my barometer. I have no idea when that will be so all shopping sprees are on hold until further notice.
If you do decide to shop...
Get staples. Don't go too trendy. Ask yourself is this something you would want to wear next year?
Last year, I went to Las Vegas for a bachelorette. I decided to go all neon because neon was it. I even got neon pajamas. This year neon is dead on arrival. If not like you can't wear it anymore, but spring/summer 2019 was really its prime.
So, think of my now donated neon wardrobe if you decide to buy anything. Keep in mind that there a chance that you will not be able to wear it this year. If it's something you're okay with tabling for a year, feel free to buy it.
It's your choice in the end
At the end of the day it's up to you. If shopping is something that helps you during these trying times, I won't tell you not to do it! The only thing I'll say is to manage expectations.
