I don't know about you, but I really need an escape this weekend. Here are some shows to watch if you need one too!
The Great
What it's about: The Great is a satirical, comedic drama about the rise of Catherine the Great from outsider to the longest reigning female ruler in Russia's history. (Hulu)
Why you should watch: It's (intentionally) wildly inaccurate, but definitely captures Catherine the Great's essence. The Great is ridiculously funny which most period pieces tend not to be.

Selling Sunset
What it's about: The elite agents at The Oppenheim Group sell the luxe life to affluent buyers in LA. Relationships are everything, and that often means major drama. (Netflix)
Why you should watch: This show is The Hills meets Million Dollar Listing. It's even produced by the same producer of The Hills/Laguna Beach. So, you get your fix of catty fights plus a glimpse of beautiful Los Angeles homes.

The Wire
What it's about: In the drug-ridden streets of West Baltimore, there are good guys and there are bad guys. Sometimes you need more than a badge to tell them apart. (HBO)
Why you should watch: The technology may have evolved since this show first aired, but the concept still hits all of the right points.

Zero Zero Zero
What it's about: ZeroZeroZero series follows the journey of a cocaine shipment, from the moment a powerful cartel Italian criminals decides to buy it until the cargo is delivered and paid for, passing through its packaging in Mexico and shipment across the Atlantic Ocean. (Prime Video)
Why you should watch: Each episode covers a lot of story, but is able to delve into the different storylines in depth. There are no plot holes to be found in this series.

Trial by Media
What it's about: Investigating the murder of a pizza delivery man, a London detective uncovers a tangled conspiracy involving drug dealers, smugglers and spies. (Netflix)
Why you should watch: This show touches on the how many cases are tried in the media before they even reach the courtroom and some may use that to their advantage. With everything going on right now, it definitely makes for an interesting watch. Each episode is a stand alone so you do not need to watch in order or even watch every episode.

Kim's Convenience
What it's about: While running a convenience store in Toronto, members of a Korean-Canadian family deal with customers, each other and the evolving world around them. (Netflix)
Why you should watch: So many people recommended this show to me before I finally watched it. It's hilarious, belly laughs hilarious.

History 101
What it's about: Infographics and archival footage deliver bite-size history lessons on scientific breakthroughs, social movements and world-changing discoveries. (Netflix)
Why you should watch: If you're interested in history you'll love this show. The episodes are only 30 minutes, but manage to pump out a lot of information. Like Trial by Media, it can be watched in no particular order.

Love Life
What it's about: This romantic comedy series tracks Darby Carter across her twenties as she navigates work and romance in New York City, often with the insecurities of youth bubbling to the surface. Love Life shows how each of Darby's encounters brings her closer to finding her "person", even if she doesn't know it yet. (HBO Max)
Why you should watch: I'm a sucker for a rom-com. I'll also admit that because Darby is supposed to be around my age (it takes place mostly in the 2010s), I find her navigating love and New York City highly relatable. The 2015 episode where Fetty Wap was blasting at a party instantly brought me back that summer with my friends. All that being said, it's very cute and has more layers than you'd expect.

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
What it's about: Will's mom sends him away from his rough Philadelphia neighborhood to live with wealthy Uncle Phil and Aunt Vivian in Bel-Air. Will often has fun at the expense of stuck-up cousins Carlton and Hilary. (HBO Max)
Why you should watch: This is the first time this show has ever been available for streaming!I feel like the Fresh Prince is what we all need right now. It could not have arrived at a more perfect time.
