Usually I cannot pack lightly to save my life and always end up taking a lot of things I never even take out of the bag, never mind use. So with a 23 hour flight ahead of me I am trying to be practical.
Zara City Bag - £59.99A great sized bag. It has lots of different compartments which are secure so I can be mega organised and know exactly where everything is. It also has a nice thick shoulder strap so I can easily walk around the airport with it.
Like most airlines I have a pretty generous 5kg hand luggage allowance. The liquid allowance is a maximum of 100ml bottles, up to 1 litre, so I can take 10 100ml items, which is also pretty generous considering how strict the airport security can be.
(Left bag - contains non liquid items)(Right bag - contains liquid items 100ml or less)
Simple cleansing lotionSimple gentle tonerSimple hydrating moisturiser
All 3 of the above are essentials for such a long flight. They will keep my skin feeling fresh and clean, whilst the moisturiser will hopefully prevent my skin from drying out whilst in the air. I am also taking some cotton pads along with these for an easy and on-the-go application.
Sure DeodorantGarnier 7 day moisture hand creamCarex anti bacterial wipesAnti bacterial hand gelColgate multi-protection mouthwash
I have limited myself on liquids and am only taking essentials. As the flight is so long I am not going to bother with make-up, so I'm just going to put that in my suitcase. I have had to decant some products so to do this I bought some 100ml clear bottles from Primark, really cheap and perfect for the flight.
Airlines require that liquids are put in a zip lock clear bag. However I have another zip lock bag containing some other essentials.Chewing gumTissuesA nail file (cardboard due to airport restrictions)Spare hair bobbles & gripsRennie indigestion reliefNeurofenPlastersCotton pads
In the middle section of my bag I am putting all of my important documents, as it is a college trip we don't have to keep flight tickets etc as the trip leader has them.
PassportSmall notebook & penTravel card documentsMy purse (a much smaller one than my everyday purse)South African rand
Eye mask & ear plugs - I always have trouble sleeping on planes due to the noise so as it's such a long time to travel I am taking these two to hopefully help me sleep.
Fluffy socksSpare leggingsSpare underwearSunglasses - of course as it's currently 31 degrees in South Africa
These 3 items are mainly for more comfort on the plane but I'm also taking spare underwear as we are traveling for such a long time and we have a change over at Dubai so I will have time to get changed & freshen up.
And finally a few extras that aren't in these pictures as I haven't packed them yet!
Ipod & headphonesCamera & chargerPhone & chargerMagazinesPuzzle suduko book - these can keep me entertained for hours!
We are flying with Emirates airlines and I have read many fantastic things about them. I have also looked up the in-flight entertainment and there is great box sets/films on board so I shouldn't be too bored!
Have I missed anything out? What are your in-flight essentials?A post will shortly follow on where I am going for a once in a life time adventure.
