Yesterday, Tea Party and other conservative groups targeted by Obama’s IRS for special scrutiny, testified before the House Ways and Means Committee about how they were subjected to intrusive questions and relentless paperwork when they had sought tax-exempt status as non-profits.
Becky Gerritson, president of a Tea Party group in Wetumpka, Alabama, tearfully described how she and her husband had to seek (and pay for) legal counsel when confronted with invasive IRS questions about their donors and the amounts donated, names of the group’s volunteers, communications with legislators, and their voter education activities. These are all questions that are improper and illicit.
She said, “This was not an accident. This is a willful act of intimidation intended to discourage a point of view.”
