What Kind of Apologist Should You Be?

By Sjbedard @sjbedard

Are you hoping to be the next William Lane Craig, Ravi Zacharias or Craig Evans? I have some bad news for you, there is only one William Lane Craig, Ravi Zacharias and Craig Evans. I have some good news for you, there is only one William Lane Craig, Ravi Zacharias and Craig Evans.

One of the most serious errors in getting involved in apologetics is trying to emulate another apologist. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being inspired by another apologist, pastor, scholar or Christian leader. But you can be inspired without imitating.

The reason it is wrong to try and be like another apologist is because they have a certain set of natural gifts, formal education, personal experience and life opportunities that are unique to them. At the same time, you have all of those things that are unique to you. There may be some overlap but probably not much.

So what kind of apologist should you be? You should be the best apologist you can be in the areas that you are interested/gifted in and you should tailor your training to who you are and not who your hero is. Be you because there is no other you.
