The Inside Of The Husbands Mouth
I had no idea what pharyngitis was, my husband has been under the weather the last few days, what started as simple cold has turned into a rather nasty virus. The usual aches and pains and then the high temperature began, his throat began throbbing and before he knew it swallowing became painful.
As Matt is diabetic he was struggling with food and as he has to inject insulin three times daily, we thought it advisable for him to see a GP.
He has been diagnosed with pharyngitis and has been given antibiotics, dissolvable paracetamol to gargle with and Ibuprofen for the pain.
What Is Pharyngitis?
Pharyngitis is inflammation of your throat, usually caused by an infection. The infection can sometimes cause inflammation of your tonsils as well.
Pharyngitis is a common condition, particularly in children and young adults.
(Bupa kindly informs me)
An infection or a virus is the usual cause of Pharyngitis. As with Matt the common symptoms are similar to a cold. The most common type of bacterial infection is Streptococcus (known as strep throat)
I am hoping that the antibiotics will soon start to work as his throat looks painfully read and swollen and a white lump is clearly visable.
