What is Kidcation? It's coming August 12th - 18th!
Kidcation Week is coming! Summer is winding down and the City of San Antonio is throwing a week-long BIG bash before the kids go back to school!
Locals, lucky you that you live in such an awesome city that is offering a weeks worth of special events, attraction deals and restaurant specials!  And non-locals, lucky you, too! Kidcation Week has some great hotel offers as well, if you are looking for a fun family getaway!
The Kidcation Kick Off Festival will be held at Hemisfair Park, Monday August 12th, from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Bring the family out to celebrate with live music fromThe Zots and Elora & Gasoline Alley, free snacks and appearances from Shamu, the Spurs' Coyote, McGruff the Crime Dog, Whataguy and more! 
Here's a list of the special events planned for the week! Stack them up with an attraction and a lunch or dinner special and you've got a great day planned! Parents, plan an eventful day and take a day off of work to have some fun with the kids. 

MONDAY, AUGUST 12th

Kidcation Week Kick Off FestivalHemisfair Park, 200 S Alamo St, 9:30 - 12:30pm 
"Peitra y El Lobo" Arneson River Theatre, 418 Villita Street, 210-207-8614(Peitra and the Wolf) is a one-act ballet story set in the Iberian Forest of Spain, inspired by the children's story  "Peter and the Wolf" Free. 8-9 pm.
Movies by Moonlight Hemisfair Park Pre-show entertainment starts around 7:30 p.m. followed by a brief intermission, with the feature film, Despicable Me, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Food will be for sale but also make sure to bring your picnic baskets, lawn chairs and blankets. Sponsored by Slab Cinema.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 13th

Downtown Tuesdays - Free parking at city-operated parking garages, parking lots and parking meters from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Bat Loco Bash San Antonio River Authority100 E Guenther,  210-302-3222- During this special Kidcation Week event families can learn about bats as they watch them emerge from under the I-35 bridge along the Museum Reach of the San Antonio River. This special Bat Loco Bash will have food trucks, live music and fun childrens entertainment such as a kayak demonstration, planting seeds (kids can take plants home to watch them grow) and a visit from the San Antonio Zoo. Takes place from 7:30 to 9pm.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14th


Vaqueronation: Cowboy Day at the ITC Institute of Texan Cultures  801 E. Cesar Chavez Blvd.,  512-485-2275  - From 10 am to 3 pm with Cowboy Docents, Book Readings & Activity Tables.
Toddler Playdate San Antonio Museum of Art - 202 West Jones Ave,  210-978-8102  SAMA Playdates features “Under the Sea” for ages 2 to 4 from 10:00–11:00 a.m. This playdate cultivates and inspires creativity while developing an appreciation of art and world cultures. Toddlers will experience stories, gallery activities, hand-on art, movement and music.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 15th

Watch "The Alamo" at The Alamo - Alamo Plaza - A truly special event during Kidcation Week- The Allies of the Alamo present an outdoor movie screening of “The Alamo” at the Alamo. Blankets & lawn chairs welcome. There will be concession stands, no outside food or drink. For more call 210-225-1391, ext. 10. Only the first 400 visitors in line will get to enter due to space. Gates open at 7:30pm.
Free Admission at the San Antonio Children’s Museum 305 E Houston St - Enjoy free admission and programming from 1:30 to 6:00 pm at the San Antonio Children's Museum presented by Ser Padres magazine. LET’S READ! Kids Back to School Fest Kidcation Finale - Main Plaza, 111 Soledad St., (210) 225-9800For the Grand Finale of Kidcation Week is this Back to School Festival in “the heart of the city”, Main Plaza. From 9am to noon, families can enjoy Make and Take arts and crafts, airbrushing and hair styling, musical performances, storytelling, book giveaways, an instrument petting zoo and much more. So snag some cool back to school swag (while supplies last) and celebrate education and imagination at the Let’s Read! Kid’s Back to School Fest Kidcation Finale.
