Mount Wellington
Mt. Wellington towers over the city of Hobart and reaches a height of 1,271 metres tall. You have several options to choose from if you wish to conquer the mountain. Take the easy route and drive to the top by car, or head out through the forest and trek the unbelievable landscapes. The views at the top of Mt. Wellington are certainly worth the trek up the mountain, you can see Hobart, Bruny Island, and the Derwent River all from one vantage point!
MONA
The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) was officially opened in 2011, in Hobart’s CBD. MONA is often described as one of the most unique art galleries in the world. It is a privately owned estate which shows the $110 million dollar collection of wealthy Tasmanian man, David Walsh. It is an intricately designed and executes museum, with unique collections from all over the world displayed for those who visit. Once a year, the infamous festival Dark Mofo is held at MONA, with live music, entertaining acts, and several unusual performances and events are held over a week of parties.
Bruny Island
Bruny Island is located around 2 hours from Hobart, however, the easiest way to visit is by heading on a day trip departing from Hobart. It is famous for its beautiful scenery and abundance of rare and endangered animals and plants. Bruny Island is home to towering cliffs, remote sandy beaches, wonderful hiking trails and a gorgeous historical lighthouse. While visiting the island, you may get the chance to see fairy penguins, fur seals, wedge tailed eagles, white wallabies, and several other unique Australian animals.
Port Arthur
It would not be a trip to Hobart unless you visit the infamous Port Arthur. This heritage listed landmark was once home to some of Australia’s most dangerous criminals and has been preserved as an intriguing museum for travellers to explore. There are many unbelievable stories and tales about Port Arthur, and it is a fascinating place to visit while you are in Hobart.
