What Is A Human: What Is A Human

Multi-instrumentalist Felician Erlenburg has a background in classical music and jazz, but he is now trying his hands at using electronics for his composing ventures. What Is A Human is basically an experimental, synth-driven one-man project, but he called in favours from fellow musicians to add strings, voices, bass, drums and such.

He goes for tension and release, with alternating textures setting up loose conversations that sounds spontaneous, but are actually carefully planned. Erlenburg is still feeling his way using his unfamiliar tools, but since he is not fully aware about what can be achieved with them, he discovers new ways that more seasoned players would shun away from. For him it is perfectly fine to insert a bit of shoegaze or indie rock in order to mix things up.

It is refreshing and might be a bit unsettling for the unitiated who tend to cling to well trodden paths in the land of music. Deviation is far more interesting in the long run and Erlenburg rose to the occasion to cut through the rubble and create a new path.
