Hot, sticky and sweaty – those days when you want to go commando on top and bottom are coming (I’m assuming you live on my side of the equator). Heat waves where I live, Philly, are brutal. A steam bath is the term thrown around when it gets into triple digits and the term is on point. This dress, Vera Aveline, is for those days. True, it can be worn in other instances, but it is for this climate that it was born.

The easiest dress you’ll ever make – it’s literally two boxes sewn together, shirred and attached to straps – Vera Aveline is not for every silhouette. I know. It’s very bohemian and Free People, and when I first put it on, I thought, “This is a frumpy sac!” But with the right outfitting, it works and is cool (pun intended).

I will spare the construction details because later this week, I will post a complete tutorial on how to make Vera Aveline, from start to finish. I’ll also offer a printable PDF to go along with it. Fancy, aren’t I?

I can’t end without a shout out to The Loom, a local warehouse made up of lofts, artist studios and office space for small businesses. I shot these photos just before I rented my new space, Madalynne Studios, but if you live in the area and looking for a place for your creative endeavors, check them out!
