Now that summer is fully underway, for tonight’s post in this series, I am going to show you how to make business-casual work outfits with pieces you would wear on the weekends.
An effective way to get the most use out of what you own is to have things in your closet that you can wear for both work and fun. Regardless of how casual your work environment is, however, whenever you wear pieces to work it is always important that you step these items up a notch. Work is not the place for casual flip-flops, flimsy tank tops or denim that you would wear to do yard work. Business-casual still does require some polish.
Check out looks using items that are in the stores now, for some inspiration and ideas on how to accomplish take your causal to business causal with just a few tweaks.

For the weekend, this dress fro Modcloth would look sophisticated with a pair of sandals and a fun tote bag, yet it becomes work appropriate with a dressier pair of shoes, a blazer, a more structured handbag and more conservative jewelry. By simply upgrading the elements worn with the dress it becomes office-friendly.

For weekend, this skirt from Target would be the perfect with flip-flops and a tank top on a hot day. For the office, the skirt gets a promotion with a belted top, suede wedges, work bag and colorful, yet polished, jewelry.

How you would wear these pants from J. Crew on the weekends probably is probably not all different to how you would wear them to the office. Perhaps on the weekend you would wear sandals and a t-shirt. For work, the look is upgraded with more structured ballerina flats (not easy weekend bum around town ballerina flats) and a sleeveless button-down shirt. In a more casual work environment, a cardigan is a fine choice over a more tailored blazer and more conservative earrings make the outfit more boardroom and less barbecue friendly.
