It's Homecoming and a must win for WVU. The Oklahoma Sooners proved to be too much for a young Mountaineer team last Saturday. Gibson, Howard, and Smallwood played well on offense. Howard even had a 50 yard TD run on a 4th and 2 play. And on defense, Karl Joseph was a beast. But the Mounties dug themselves into a 17 point hole before halftime. You can't give up a lead like that to Oklahoma in Norman. Although WVU roared back to within 3 points in the 3rd Quarter, it wasn't enough. WVU is now 3-1 as a result.
A loss this Saturday to the Oklahoma St. Cowboys would be a nail in the coffin for WVU. To come out of a hard October schedule with a .500 record would be a victory for the Mountaineers. But with last weeks loss, the hopes for a .500 October record grow dim. The final two games at Baylor and at TCU are almost guaranteed losses. (Although, If I had to pick an upset, it would be against TCU. I honestly think they are good, but over ranked.) The AP Poll has Oklahoma St. at 21st, and WVU not ranked. But Vegas has WVU as a 6 point favorite. Give me Vegas any day of the week. The Mountaineers still have one of the toughest defenses in the Big 12, and is ranked only 2nd to Oklahoma St. in total yards allowed. So look for a defensive battle in Morgantown on Saturday night. The main cause of concern for WVU, Safety Karl Joseph who leads the league with 5 interceptions, suffered a season ending knee injury in practice. The defense will not be the same without him.
But even without Joseph, I believe WVU at home will be too much for the Cowboys.
Prediction: WVU 24 Oklahoma 14
