Welcome to the “N8″

By Amsterdam City Tours

...Or, if you don't speak Dutch, the "Nacht" - Museumnacht to be precise.

Museumnacht (or Museum Night, to you and me) is a much-loved annual event that hits most major Dutch cities at some point in the calendar. In Amsterdam, Museumnacht is happening tonight, and it promises to be glorious. If you have ever wanted to live out the movie "Night at the Museum" for real except with drinks, canapes and in Amsterdam (and let's be honest, who of us hasn't) tonight will be a real treat!

Scheepvaartmuseum // Museumnacht Amsterdam 2012

Museumnacht in Amsterdam is held on the first Saturday in November of every year. Around 50 of the cities most popular museums reopen their doors to the public from 19:00 until 02:00 the following morning. As a guest at any one of Amsterdam's busiest museums including the Rijksmuseum, the Artis Planetarium, the Arcam and the Eye among many others, you will be able to view the entirety of that museum's permanents collection and any temporary exhibits on show. What makes Museum Night different than just any regular late night museum outing, however, is that many establishments work with the organizers to organize special workshops and events to give the night extra punch.

During this, the 14th incarnation of Museumnacht, you will be able to enjoy live music and DJs scattered around the participating venues, as well as dance and theatrical performances, films, and specially organized tours. Food and drinks will also be served at venues, because what better way is there to enjoy culture than with a midnight snack and an alcohol beverage? None, I tell you.

To participate in Museum Night, you need to purchase a ticket for EUR 17.95, which will then give you entry to all participating museums, as well as free use of the city's GVB buses and trams, as well as a bonus museum visit that is valid until December 31st 2013. Of course, this being Amsterdam, we highly recommend you avoid public transit altogether and stick to your trusty bike.
