Weekend Special: QR Codes for Advertisements

Posted on the 10 September 2011 by Onqmarketing @onqmarketing

IF ONLY In reading Australia’s ‘The Age’ newspaper, I come across a full page advertisement promoting upcoming shows for opera legend Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. The advertisement would not have come cheap, no matter the deal you’re looking around the $20,000 mark. Can you evaluate what results this spend got for them? Maybe if there’s a spike in ticket sales in the days following but assuming that’s not the only advertisement. Can someone sitting at a cafe reading the paper make a direct action to purchase tickets? If they call maybe. Why not throw in a QR Code just to see how it goes, you’ve spent $20k on the ad so it won’t hurt. The code above I produced in less than 2 minutes thanks to QR Stuff. Grab your mobile and scan it, you’ll see that it goes through to a PayPal transaction totalling $1 to be made to my account for ‘More Ideas’. Of course I don’t expect anything here, it’s simply an example. QR Codes will track the statistics evey time giving you an idea of whether it is worth using regularly. So I am not saying it will definitely work but it is definitely worth trying. The only issue with this perhaps, is the fact that in this instance Dame Kiri Te Kanawa’s target audience may not be using smartphones (Sorry Nan). So I am going to introduce one here for someone to use, they’ve either never escaped my head or they’ve been pitched to clients that have passed. I am not expecting any of my ideas to be completely unique, nor am I expecting them to be groundbreaking. #1 – In Australia our Trade Unions have done a great job in ensuring that our construction industry has an RDO on basically every second Monday. It makes sense to run one-day only specials for businesses targeting that industry. I pitched it to a Workwear client once and nothing. Make an event with BBQ, etc. I have a couple...
