If I could spend a couple of months on Twitter, I could sort out the fake profiles and spam bots on my followers list. But it would take forever to sort out all the liars because sometimes even I can’t figure out if these people are telling the truth or not. But, apparently a group of researchers claims they can.
These researchers claimed to have found an algorithm that can tell if someone is lying on Twitter. Carlos Castillo, Barbara Poblete and Marcelo Mendoza found this new formula by comparing 16 characteristics of a true news update and a fake update that can be used to filter Twitter feeds to find which one of them are true and not. According to them, fake Tweets seems to have a lot of similar characteristics like question marks and exclamation marks. These researchers have found 16 of those mishaps and mixed them into one super tool to find fake tweets.
Well, this doesn’t mean that lying days on Twitter are over. But, it could actually come in handy. Specially during tragic times and when someone’s trying to spread fake news stories to start a trend. If this works out, we will never have to hear about the fake death’s of all those celebrities ever again.
