Watch Dogs Team was 'forced' to show E3 2012 demo
Speaking to Edge, as reported by Videogamer, Watch Dogs creative director Jonathan Morin said Ubisoft Montreal was told to show the game a little earlier than the team had hoped.
“They forced us to go at E3 2012,” he said.
“Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO] was the one who wanted us to go at that E3, even though we felt it was a bit early, and in the end I think he was right.”
As for why the team didn’t want to show the game, Morin said it was being developed with new hardware in mind but that the team didn’t yet know anything about the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
“We didn’t know what the hell those new consoles would be, so Watch Dogs really has worked on [seventh]-gen systems since the start,” he said.
“But we always pushed the ideas, the design, the core of Watch Dogs in such a way that we felt it would fit well with what we thought would be the future of games.”
Watch Dogs is due at the end of May on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, but the Wii U version does not have a release date.
