Walk Or Die

The days are getting long in Paris. It doesn't get dark till 9:30 or later, and the joggers are out even though we have been having lots of rain after a long dry winter.

I was talking about exercise with a woman I know, who said her mother, who is 90, is still healthy and goes out on a long walk every day. "We have an expression in English, 'use it or lose it'," I said.

"We have a more brutal one, but it's true too," said Louise. "Marche, ou crève." [Walk, or die.]
