VLC 2.1 Now Available with Support for 4K Video

Everyone’s favorite media player, VLC has just been updated to version 2.1 “Rincewind”, bringing a lot of new features and upgrades for all platforms including Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.

If you’re fan of Ultra-HD videos, this new update is going to help you a lot because VLC 2.1 supports 4K video playback along with improved audio processing, surround sound output and smooth video playback on mobile devices.

Here are some of the new features you get with this update -:

  • Rewritten audio core, allowing better volume and device management.
  • 4K-ready
  • Higher samplerate, precision, live configuration in the core
  • Support color conversion shaders in glsl on Android and iOS.
  • Support for deinterlacing for higher bit depth and XYZ colorspace
  • Extended support for AVI, MKV and MJPEG streams
  • New port to iOS, from iOS 5 to 7, on all iPads and iPhones after 3GS
