Vitamin D Deficiency in Kids

One of the USA’s leading experts in problems of vitamin D deficiency says more needs to be done to prevent the recent resurgence of childhood rickets, ahead of a major awareness campaign. Is he right? When I was pregnant with both my children, I took pregnacare. It didnt agree with me and made me terribly sick but I took it in low doses when I could and I’m pretty sure it contained vitamin D. Did you take anything during pregnancy? Would you take supplements if your doctor prescribed them? I know some mums who don’t even take folic acid. :(

Dr Benjamin Jacobs, consultant paediatrician and Director of Children’s Service at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, is using National Vitamin D Awareness Week to renew calls for parents and pregnant women to consider supplementation, following a rise in serious medical problems affecting children including, rickets, calcium deficiency convulsions and rarely even heart failure.
