“I just wanna be out in the sunshine. Wake up by the beach, so I can float away now.” The feeling is mutual, Vatican Dress. Is it officially summer yet? Abe Rodriguez, a Microbiology major from Baytown, Texas, was inspired by his Marine Biology course to make some music — so, let’s all take a moment to appreciate the ocean’s beauty, the same beauty that inspired Abe to create five equally gorgeous tracks for his recently released EP. These tracks are accurately dubbed “experimental, jangly, electronic pop,” which is nothing new genre-wise, but this specific flavor of “experimental, jangly, electronic pop” is somehow refreshing and revitalizing. It seems Abe captured the ocean’s chill vibes and sealed them into the flow of these tracks. Albeit, not all of the tracks are “sunny” (“Host of a Ghost” includes the line “you are sin. You are dead…”), but the overarching theme of the EP is clean, honest beauty, and it translates.
