Valmiki Tiger Reserve

Key facts:
- Location: West Champaran district, Bihar, along the India–Nepal border
- Established: Declared a Tiger Reserve in 1990
- Core forest: Valmiki National Park
- Landscape: Shivalik foothills, dense sal forests, grasslands, rivers (Gandak system)
Wildlife:
- Flagship species: Bengal Tiger
- Other mammals: Leopard, sloth bear, wild dog (dhole), sambar, chital, barking deer, wild boar
- Birdlife: Rich diversity including hornbills, kingfishers, raptors
- Reptiles: Gharial and mugger crocodile in river stretches
Ecological importance:
- Forms part of the Terai Arc Landscape, enabling wildlife movement between India and Nepal
