For those who haven´t noticed yet… valentines day is coming up! I don´t believe you couldn´t notice it, since (thank god) you are remembered by so many commercials everywhere! For me and Noemi valentines day is just like every other day, where we show our loved ones how much we love them (not only or especially on valentines day). That´s why we don´t really celebrate it, but instead we make lots of heart shaped sweets in the previous weeks to inspire you guys! I actually love coming up with sweets like this, because valentines day or not, boyfriend or not, this is such a cute gift to make- heart shaped churros.

When it comes to frying things, it´s always worth a thought. I mean you and your kitchen smells like fries, it´s kind of a mess  and frying does need a little experience… but after all I have to promise you, those churros are totally worth the mess! Super crispy churros on the outside and soft in the inside rolled in cinnamon sugar, they just melt on your tongue. With this step by step guide you can easily make them yourself! Serve them fresh, that´s when they taste best!

Ingredients for cinnamon sugar

  • 3 tbs. sugar
  • 1+1/2 tbs. cinnamon

Combine both ingredients in a flat bowl.

Ingredients for churros dough

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 eggs
  • a pinch of salt
  • 125g butter
  • 2 tbs. sugar
  • vegetable oil for frying

Step by step to the perfect churros:

1. In a heatproof bowl combine sugar, butter, water and salt.

2. Melt butter mixture over simmering water.

3. Remove from heat and add flour using a wooden kitchen spoon. Stir until mixture turns thick.

4. Using an electric mixer, add eggs and mix until incorporated an dough resembles smooth.

5. Fill dough into a piping bag with a star nozzle.

6. In a medium sized pot pour about 1/3 of the way with oil.

7. Heat over medium heat. You can test the temperature with a small cube of bread. If it will brown in a minute it´s just right. (Don´t make the oil too hot, otherwise your churros will burn.)

8.You can form the heart on a kitchen gadget like a spatula and then slowly transfer churro heart into oil.

9. Do this with all of your churro hearts, approximately 3 at a time.

10. Let them fry until golden brown on each side, by turning once in a while.

11. Let your churros drain on paper towels, then gently toss them in the cinnamon sugar.

12. Now you´re ready to enjoy these little treats!

Have a great weekend!

xx
