Using Technology to Save Money on Energy Bills

By Smilinglikesunshine @smilinglikesuns
I have a written a couple of posts on how to reduce the energy bills. Despite our efforts, I still find that we waste money at times purely accidentally.
Just yesterday, I came home to find the lamp in the garden turned on. We didn't even use it,apparently one of the children had turned it on! As I was working the whole day, it was on for so many hours!
The other day, we had forgotten the heating on which is so annoying to realize when you are at work and can't get back to home!
It has come to my attention that there is a an exciting new product which lets you monitor, alter and control your heating and hot water all through the touch of a button on your smartphone or browser! You can adjust your schedules and temperatures away from home with the option for alerts to be sent to your mobile if temperatures reach a certain level. How brilliant!
This new product, Hive, allows you control your heating remotely, whatever you're doing, wherever you are. You might be at work,on holiday,on the train and you can still be in control of your heating and hot water.
We all have busy lives and so many things to remember, therefore this looks like a brilliant product.
Hive Active Heating consists of a thermostat, a hub which will be plugged into your router,a receiver and an app. The installation will be done professionally by a British Gas engineer and there is no need to switch your energy supplier. You'll be able to control heating and hot water, as well as set alerts to let you know that your house has changed temperature, set frost protection remotely and so on. The kit costs £199 but once installed, will save money in the long run.
