USGBC Launches Its Green Teacher CertificateAs an educator, this next story is the type I love to read about. The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) is now offering a Green Classroom Professional Certificate Program. According to the Center for Green Schools, the certification program “encourages sustainable practices in classrooms to further the mission of creating green schools for everyone within this generation.” The goal is to create awareness of greener lifestyles, energy savings, and environmental health in students and educators.

The certification is aimed at educators (including teachers, administrators, and parents among others) in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. It is intended to furnish these individuals “with the knowledge and skills to: Identify features that support or impede environmentally healthy, resource efficient, and sustainable learning spaces, and recognize, adopt, and implement practices that promote health among students and school occupants.”

From now through the end of the month, the course will be available for a reduced fee of $75. The program consists of 12 modules on green classroom topics, with the entire course running approximately 2-3 hours. A 30 question assessment with interactive questions, lasting one hour, will follow completion of the modules. Participants have take the assessment within 30 days of beginning the course. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
