Soon, people have a hard time telling from a real shark with a fake drone shark, because the US Navy has developed a giant five-foot-long unmanned underwater drone that not only look like a shark, but also swims like one.
Dubbed “The GhostSwimmer”, new Navy drone aims to help in covert missions and to spy on enemies. The vehicle can actually swim like a shark and even dive 300 feet deep underwater.
“It swims just like a fish does by oscillating its tail fin back and forth,” said Michael Rufo, director of Boston Engineering’s Advanced Systems Group. “The unit is a combination of unmanned systems engineering and unique propulsion and control capabilities.”

Still, the GhostSwimmer has a lot of downsides. For example it has to be brought to the surface to download its recorded data and the requirement of a 500-foot tether to maintain control of the vehicle. It will take some time to improve Ghost Swimmer before putting it to actual use.
