Astonishingly, Latin America, with just 8% of the world’s population, has 41 of the world’s most dangerous cities:
- 21 in Brazil
- 8 in Venezuela, including #1 most violent city in the world, Caracas.
- 5 in Mexico
- 3 in Columbia
- 2 in Honduras
- 1 in El Salvador
- 1 in Guatemala
4 of the cities are in South Africa:
- Cape Town
- Durban
- Johannesburg
- Nelson Mandela Bay
4 of the cities are in the United States:
- #15: St. Louis, Missouri – 59.23 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants
- #19: Baltimore, Maryland – 54.98 homicides/100,000
- #28: Detroit, Michigan – 43.89 homicides/100,000
- #32: New Orleans, Louisiana – 41.44 homicides/100,000
It is noteworthy that all 4 cities have a large Black population and Democrat mayors:
- St. Louis : 47.5% Black (est. 2014); mayor Francis Slay (D).
- Baltimore : 63.7% Black (2010); mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake (D).
- Detroit : 82.7% Black (2010); mayor Mike Duggan (D).
- New Orleans : 60.2% Black (2010); mayor Mitch Landrieu (D). Homicides in New Orleans are committed almost exclusively by black men, with 97% of the offenders being black and 95% being male.
