If you haven’t heard the news, the new Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks (that come in an amazing 100 shades!) are launching tomorrow, on the 23rd of August exclusively at MECCA stores and online!
The range of Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks come in 6 different formula finishes: Cream, Comfort Matte, Mega Matte, Metalized, Sheer and Sheer Shimmer and retail for $28 each. Unfortunately I dont have any of the Sheer Shimmer lipsticks to show you today but I have included swatches and reviews of all the other 5 finishes. The shades in the collection include every color imaginable, from a pearly white to nudes, reds, blues and purples!
I was lucky enough to receive a 1/5 of the range to swatch and review 20 of the new lipstick shades for you. I will also be reviewing 8 of the new 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencils (there are 50 in total!) in the coming days. The retail for $33 each.
Here are my thoughts on each of the lipstick finishes and my favourites from those:Cream: The standouts in this Vice range has to be the those with the cream finishes, for me. They glide onto the lips with ease, are beautifully pigmented and comfortable to wear for hours and hours (with very little touch up necessary). The finish provides a slight sheen to the creamy finish that plumps up the lips, with the deeper shades leaving a stain behind, allowing the lipstick to wear away nicely, as the day progresses. My favourites of the 10 Cream Vice Lipsticks I tried are ’69’, a beautiful blue based red, ‘Shame’ is a stunning oxblood red which would be perfect if you’re looking for a slightly vampy evening shade (that you can apply sheerer or build it up intensely), as well as ‘Naked’ and ‘Streak’ which are gorgeous everyday pink nudes that I think a lot of people could pull off!
Comfort Matte: I was interested to try this Comfort Matte finish and compare it to the regular matte lip sticks I’ve tried in the past and I was pleasantly surprised! This finish is actually really comfortable and apply like a cream with great pigment. The only difference is that the finish is completely matte and doesn’t have any tackiness to them. I didn’t find them to particularly dry my lips (I always apply lip balm underneath any matte lipstick) and the lasting power is really good with only 1-2 touch ups needed for the whole day as the shades also impart a stain on the lips. The shade ‘Perversion’ has to be one of the creamiest and deepest black shades I’ve come across, while ‘Tilt’ would be a stunning bright pop of color in the Spring.
Mega Matte: I had one shade to try from the Mega Matte range and that was ‘Pandemonium’, an almost iconic Urban Decay purple shade. I tried my best to capture its true shade for the swatch (the camera refused to pick up properly so please swatch it in store if you are interested in the colour). The formula is slightly on the drier side to allow for the finish, but on my lips it just didn’t glide on as beautifully as the others. I found it to settle in the creases of my lips quite quickly so unfortunately it didn’t look the best on me. Though perhaps the die-hard matte lovers may love it, I’m just not the biggest fan of ultra matte formulas.
Metalized: This finish is really interesting as it has a sheer base of color but the finely milled metallic particles help build the color up to a seemingly semi-opaque to opaque finish! The shade ‘Big Bang’ is definitely a party shade for me as I dont think I could wear it everyday but the frosty metal finish is something that isn’t too common with lipsticks, so if you’re looking for something with this finish, I’d definitely recommend having a look at this range!
Sheer: The sheer range is definitely for those who like a light wash/tint of color on their lips, without the product feeling heavy. The formula is light and provides a sheen to the lips without being overly sticky, like a lip gloss. You can choose to apply them really lightly for a barely there finish, on top of another lipstick or you can slightly build it up with a second layer, though I did find that some of these sheer shades did pull and move if you tried to build them up too much. My favorite of the 5 Sheer Vice Lipsticks I tried is ‘Plaid’ and ‘Liquid’ was the most disappointing shade.
