Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Lipsticks Review & Swatches
Urban Decay are well and truly putting Tena Lady to the test, as they released a new collection with Gwen Stefani which is limited edition and includes everything from a palette to lipsticks. What would you expect to see from a Gwen Stefani makeup collection? I expected to see bright colours, edgy packaging, an amazing brow palette and a signature red lippy. Guess what the collection contains? All of the above. Drooooool.
I was very lucky to be sent a few of her lipsticks to try out. As soon as that package came through my postbox, I was like my inner fat kid who had just discovered selection boxes at Christmas time. Genuinely tore into that package like it was a winning lottery ticket. I was SO excited to see the packaging. I knew it was going to be edgy and would maybe be monochrome but this is genuinely unlike any other packaging I've seen before. I feel classy and edgy using it.
The box and the packaging is adorned with black and gold stripes and has a unique take on a lipstick lid. Normally the lid comes off and then you twist the cylinder to unwind the lipstick. With this product, you take the lid off and twist only the little gold base of the lipstick. It's tricky to explain it but will make more sense if you take a look at the pictures.

As for the products themselves, I was sent "Firebird", "714" and "Rocksteady". All of the shades were named after her songs (I can't find any reference of a song called 714 though, I think it's a memorable date...).
Firebird is a bright fuschia color which has a creamy consistency. The color pay off is great but can be worn as a lighter pigment or a vibrant fuschia. The shade has a strong blue undertone and looks almost purple in the pan. It has quite a glossy finish which made me worried about lasting throughout the day but actually this wore pretty well. I was able to wear this for a good four hours on a night out before needing to top up which is pretty good considering I was drinking throughout the night.
Rocksteady is the most 'me' shade I was sent. I know this will be worn until It's untimely death (I'm buying a few more now to stock up because these are limited edition and I don't fancy paying £40 on ebay in a few months time.) This is a deep red with an amazing color pay off.  The texture is the same as Firebird, it has a creamy glossy finish.
714 is a different formula all together. This is a vibrant red with orange undertones which l'd say is the most 'Gwen' shade of the entire collection (8 shades). This is the first ever "Super matte" finish lipstick from Urban Decay and I really hope it's the first of many because I flipping love it. It doesn't feel drying or chalky but definitely is a matte. I wore this for 6 hours and still didn't have to top it up. It has an amazing high pigment and you only need one coat. I would definitely recommend using a lip brush with this though because although it doesn't feel drying on the lips, t does in the pan and is a little "draggy" (imagine brushing your hair when it's wet and you haven't used conditioner...). I'd say this shade is perfect for summer.
Well Gwen, you have excelled! I doubt Gwen Stefani is reading this, but I hope Urban Decay are and if so you should know that the collection is amazing! I'm pretty sure the beauty biz will be buzzing about this collection well into 2017! Now, can we please have a collection with Iggy Azalea? Ooh or if I'm asking for stuff - collaborate with me!! I have an amazing idea for packaging and I know which shades I would create already. #LipstickDreaming
This really is worth the hype folks. Go try it! Let me know your thoughts below. I'd be interested to see which shade s your fave and your thoughts on the mega matte 714!
I'm off to change the Tena lady...
