Media, Culture, and Communication - NYU Steinhardt

An overview of the main schools of political theory, including democracy, authoritarianism, and alternative theories. The aim is to demonstrate familiarity with important thinkers and major works in the history of political theory use theoretical language to analyze and critique political behavior and events identify the strengths and weaknesses of different forms of government and demonstrate knowledge of crucial concepts (justice, power, authority, the state, social contract, etc.) and their history. Topics include the philosophical foundations of liberalism, socialism, and conservatism and the core political concepts of justice, power, and authority.

Prerequisites: ECON 756 and 758. An examination of the structure of financial institutions and their role in providing money and near money. The goal is to evaluate how the banking and business environment has changed, describe the functions and measurement of money, discuss and evaluate the money supply creation process, and analyze the impact of the Federal Reserve's policies on both the . economy and the economies of other nations. Topics include the composition of the Federal Reserve, the money supply creation process, the tools of monetary policy, the term structure of interest rates, the demand for and supply of money, and interest rate theories. Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: ECON 985 or ECON 986.

Whether you&rsquo re a prospective teacher or a practicing educator looking to expand your skills, gain certification to teach history and the social sciences to students in grades 7 through 67, or develop your abilities to do research in social studies education, we have a program of study for you. You will build on your knowledge of content areas, learn pedagogical methods, and gain hands-on teaching experience in New York City public schools. Our programs offer initial, professional, or dual certification, as well as dual degrees.

(Fulfills the general education requirements in communications or arts and humanities.) Prerequisite: WRTG 656 or WRTG 656S. Further practice in writing using readings in literature. Focus is on academic writing forms, especially critical analysis of literature, through a variety of modes, such as comparison and contrast, classification, and causal analysis. Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: ENGL 657 or ENGL 797.

A basic study of the strategic role of human resource management. The objective is to apply knowledge of human behavior, labor relations, and current laws and regulations to a working environment. Topics include employment laws and regulations, diversity in a global economy, total rewards management, and training and development for organizational success. Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: BMGT 865, HRMN 855, or TMGT 865.

Rooted in economics and sociology, this master&rsquo s program teaches you how to use statistics, data sets, and research results to formulate, implement, and evaluate educational policies for grades K-67 and higher education. Gain in-demand skills and experience to craft reforms and improve the quality of education, working for educational agencies, think tanks, and non-profit organizations.

This 69-66-credit minor offers an opportunity to explore a career in education. You&rsquo ll take courses that introduce you to the study of education and human development from early childhood through adolescence. Prepare for further study toward a career as a classroom teacher or in related fields such as psychology, counseling, social work, or advocacy. Open to all NYU students, except majors in teacher education.
