Origin's 'Ultima VII: The Black Gate' released in 1992 along with 'Ultima VII part 2: Serpent Isle' released in 1993 may look out dated compared to 2011s smash hit 'Skyrim', but I still consider it one of the best, if not the best open world role playing games ever.
