The rest of the world is Christmas shopping and I’m already planning my spring/summer 2014 wardrobe. That’s just who I am. I’ve had all my Christmas shopping done since May!
Let me warm up your cold nights with thoughts of the beach, leg hair removal and pedicures.
You got that right, next Summers hot shoe trend will be comfy sport sandals worn with our without socks. Even though these sport sandals may not be the prettiest, at least it’s a trend comfortable trend that is mommy approved.
We’re talking about busting out those Birkenstocks you’ve been keeping around to wear in the house and pairing them with summer dresses and elegant business attire in full fashion glory. Well, I may not go that far, but you can certainly see that next Spring’s big shoe trend with be heavy with teva inspired footwear.
Fashion Foresight™– Buy Now Wear Later
I few years ago I moved to Italy and since then I’ve been working in the luxury fashion sector for an artisan belt brand. One of the biggest problems I’ve faced while working in fashion, is how to keep up to date with the trends, while living on the same budget I had when I was 16.
Italy is notorious for its low wages, and the fashion industry is no exception. Last year I became a mom to the most amazing little guy, which means I have even less to spend on myself! To maintain my stylishness, while keeping my budget in check, I developed a little concept I call Fashion Foresight™.
Fashion Foresight™ is when you research the trends coming out of Fashion Week to shop the sales for things that will be “in” a year from now. Think of it as “buy now, wear later” shopping!
Look at some of these trends from the Spring 2014 collections of some of the biggest designers in the industry.

Get a knock off Right Now!
Many of you are familiar with Asos.com, they are a UK based fashion site that ships for free. They have their own designers that study the tendencies and trends years in advance to be able to predict what will be “hot”. Sometimes, however, their designers get ahead of themselves, and usually you can find things on sale that will be perfect a year from now.
Don’t believe me? I’ve done a round-up of 10 Sandals that are ON SALE right now at Asos, that are bang on for the comfortable sport sandal trend next Spring. But shhhh, don’t tell anyone how much you paid, part of being a fashionable and frugal mom is never revealing your secrets.
Just let the other ladies admire you as you stroll in stylish comfort holding your toddler in one hand and you latte in the other.

It’s important to remember that not every look makes its way from the catwalk to real life. And for some reason, living in Italy, I can’t picture Italian women leaving the house dressed like rustic German tourists in sport socks and sandals. But then again, a few years ago no one could have predicted the success of high wedge running shoes, and yet here they are!
Let’s all take a page from Grandpa’s book and embrace this ugly shoe trend. At least us moms finally have an option that is à la mode that doesn’t involve 7 inch heels….who can chase kids around in 7 inch heels? No one.
A friendly “willkommen” to the Spring 2014 trend, I’m ready for you, and quite possibly so is my toddler who loves wearing socks with his sandals.
