Two fatal head-on traffic crashes in Missouri claim four lives. Serious injury crashes were also numerous across Missouri.
Two fatal crashes happened over the weekend in Missouri:
Johnson County, Friday, July 26, 2019. At around 3:45 p.m. a fatal crash resulted when a Chevrolet S-10 and a Suzuki struck head-on a highway near Kingsville, MO. The motor vehicle crash occurred southwest of Kingsville on County Road SW 1821, South of County Road SW 275. The driver of the Chevrolet was reported with moderate injures and likewise his passenger. The driver of the Suzuki was fatally injured and was a 24 year-old Kingsville, Missouri man.
Ozark County - On Friday, July 26, 2019, three people were killed when a Ford Expedition crossed the center line and struck a Dodge pickup head-on around 5 p.m. The crash occurred on Missouri Route 5, eleven miles north of Gainesville. Two occupants in the Expedition were killed, a 57 year-old Higginsville man and his wife, a 52 year-old woman also of Higginsville. The Dodge pickup driver, a 21 year-old Gainesville, Missouri man was also killed.
Serious Injury Crashes in Missouri
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, there were 29 people seriously injured in motor vehicle crashes over the weekend counting period. The weekend counting period begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 25 and ends at 11:59 July 28, 2019. Serious injury crashes involving more than one vehicle include:
Ralls County - A crash on July 28, 2019 at 12:23 p.m involved a Hyundai Tuscon driven by a 76 year-old New London, Missouri woman that attempted to cross US 61 at Route A when a Toyota Prius driven by a 42 year-old Maple Grove, MN woman stuck the Tucson. The drivers were both sole occupants in their vehicles and were transported via ambulance to Blessings Hospital.
Saline County -A t hree vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 70 at 65.8 mile marker on Saturday evening around 10:30 p.m. resulting in four people being seriously injured. According to the MSHP, all three vehicles were travels on I-70 when the Chevy Malibu struck the rear of a 2017 Harley Davidson causing both passengers to be ejected. The 2017 Harley Davidson began to skid on the roadway and came to rest in the road. Subsequently, a 2012 Harley Davidson was struck the 2017 Harley Davidson causing a passenger from the 2017 Harley to be ejected. The driver of the Chevy Malibu was seriously injured and he is a 20 year-old Marshall, Missouri man. A driver and the occupant of the 2017 Harley Davidson were both ejected, one is a 47 year-old Kansas City woman and the driver is a 50 year-old Kansas City, Missouri man. The female passenger ejected off of the second motorcycle is a 54 year-old Raytown, Missouri woman.
Bates County - A crash occurred on Saturday afternoon around 12:15 p.m in Bates County on County Road NE 14004, east of Route T. A 56 year-old woman driving a Ford F-250 was making a right turn when she was struck by a 32 year-old Independence woman. The Independence woman was injured seriously and the Adrian woman was listed with minor injuries.
Camden County - A crash occurred on Missouri 5 at Harvest Road when a Honda CRV was stopped at Harvest Road and pulled into the path of a Grand Caravan around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Grand Caravan driven by an 80 year-old Camdenton man struck the CRV driven by a 68 year-old Camdenton man. The passenger and wife in the Grand Caravan was a 73 year-old Camdenton woman. The 80 year-old driver sustained serious injuries and his wife sustained moderate injuries.
Lawrence County- Around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, a Saturn Aura driven by a 79 year-old Springfield, Missouri man failed to yield to a Ford F-250 driven by a 24 year-old Webb City man. The 79 year-old man was seriously injured and airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. The crash occurred on MO 265/ Lawrence 1247.
Randolph County - Around 4:20 p.m. on Friday afternoon, two vehicles arrived at the intersection of County Road 1430, one mile south of Cairo. According to MSHP, both vehicles arrived simultaneously and collided. One vehicle, a Jeep Liberty was driven by a 66 year-old Cairo, Missouri man and the Ford F 250 was driven by a 39 year-old Moberly, Missouri man. The Cairo man was seriously injured.
Following a Serious Injury Car Crash
The days and weeks following a serious injury crash are overwhelming. To say the following days are "unpleasant" is a drastic understatement. Every single person I speak and meet with following a crash have far more questions than answers. This is so for one reason-the physical and financial outcomes are unknown. The unknown is scary when it involves our physical being and our financial future. That scary unknown is not specific to anyone's health, wealth or ethnicity-it is frightening for each person. I would love to be able to predict a person's outcome in the first days but even doctors do not know those answers. Hence, you should absolutely NOT be talking to any auto insurance carrier in the immediate days and possibly weeks that follow the crash.
Reasons Not to Talk to an Auto Insurance Adjuster:
One, you are probably on pain medication, anti-inflammatory medications and/or muscle relaxers. These medications were designed for injuries due to trauma. But, you should not talk to any adjusters while taking medication as these medications can impact your memory and your ability to recall memories effectively.
Two, too many people simply overshare. Again, this is not a personal flaw. Too often in the quest to be ultra honest, too many people overshare. Sometimes I talk with people that believe if they share completely with an insurance adjuster, then they will treat them more fairly. This is an incorrect assumption. Your adjuster may be nice and it may seem that they care. Ultimately, over-sharing about your medical treatment and status works against you with the auto insurance company. Sharing your medical treatment is not a good idea because one, it is really none of this complete stranger's business. Furthermore, your medical status will change drastically in the days, weeks and months to come and they should not be able to start building a case against you while you are trying to heal!
Three, the auto insurance companies goals are the same whether you over share or whether you use an attorney. The insurance adjuster has one goal-limit the amount paid out by their company. This can be through outright denials. Or the auto insurance carrier may try to argue that you are not as hurt as your doctor's indicate. This is actually very common. You should remember that it is not in their best financial interest to pay out large, fair claims. You may love your insurance agent, but he or she cannot impact your claim through your adjuster.
