Though Los Angelinos face a drastically different winter than those of us on the East Coast, with weather upward of 70 degrees, that doesn’t mean they don’t have to face a winter of the mind. The folk-pop quartet Twin Oaks, who call the sprawling city of angels their home, conjure up an arresting and dynamic storm with “Animal”. Lead singer Lauren Brown sings, “We are animals, you and I/ and we are running out of time”, registering a kind of existential crisis that sinks deeper into your skin like the repeated pull of the tide at your feet, forcing you to confront the very make up of your being.
