The challenge for any breathy-voiced singer is to convey a solid presence. Over the course of Twin Oaks’ “Clarity”, Lauren Brown’s voice is bathed in rolling waves of reverb and pushed almost to the peak. Atop her own echo she sings, “I am the breeze between the leaves,” as Aaron Domingo’s entropic pads swell. The song moves in slow and looping circles, chasing itself and unafraid to occupy its space fully. The drones’ decay and fall off the melody, outlasted by the ending “lovely sound.” Twin Oaks is spare bedroom folk no more.
