Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Policies has recently discovered this little game called Minecraft. Apparently they have found the popular sandbox game to be a bit too violent for kids and now seeking to ban the game in the country.
Most of us know Minecraft as a playground for creatives that allows us to put our imagination to work and create amazing structures, while others play the survival mode, crafting things and mining for survival. Although, this is the first time I hear someone referring to Minecraft as a violent game.
According to Turkish news website Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey’s family ministry thinks that the game promotes violence as the player has to hunt animals for food and protect their structures by attacking “hostile creatures” that haunts at night.
“The world of Minecraft can be a dangerous place: it’s inhabited by scary, genderless monsters that come out at night. It might be necessary to defend against them to survive. If people find this level of fantasy conflict upsetting, we would encourage them to play in Creative Mode, or to enable the Peaceful setting. Both of these options will prevent monsters from appearing in the world,” Mojang responded to the news via GamesBeat.

Turkey is well-known for censoring websites. More than 67,000 websites have already been blocked in the country. However, this would be the first video game to be banned in Turkey.
I wonder what would happen when these people find out about games like Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt 2?
