Turkish Eye

By Jackscott

TurkayfeThe Blue Mosque, Istanbul, Turkey.A few days ago, I was contacted by the fabulous people at Turkayfe, an online site dedicated to presenting a positive image of Turkey to the wider world. They very kindly publish my own ramblings from time to time and recently invited me to pop over to Istanbul and join a creative writing workshop to encourage Turkish students to write more about life in Turkey. I’d be in the great company of Duke Dillard who writes extensively about his life in Cappadocia (in his blog, Captivating Cappadocia) and Sarah Thomas, a travel writer who writes about her experiences of Turkey and beyond (in her blog Libertine Log). Alas, like losing my virginity to the fairer sex, it was not to be. Now I’m back in Blighty, neither time nor money allow for such flights of fancy. Still, I was enormously flattered to be asked and wonder what the young things would have made of this ex-expat, ex-pretty boy whose best years are behind him and who has a distinctly queer view of the world. Now I’ll never know.
