Rather than talking about shoes, today’s Tuesday Shoesday blog post is all about keeping your toes warm beneath that cosy pair of boots. Yes, it’s officially tights weather and I’m not leaving the house without them all winter! There are many reasons to wear tights during the chilly season, not least because they keep your legs from turning a fetching shade of purple in the cold air, and I wanted to share a few ideas with you today.
Tights expand your wardrobe
I don’t mean that there’s more storage space in there, but what I do mean is when a pair of tights are added to an outfit, it suddenly becomes an acceptable option for winter. Think about all those dresses you wore this summer – add a pair of thick opaques and a cardigan and you can carry on wearing that above-the-knee dress all season. There’s nothing cuter than a little dress paired with chunky boots during the winter and I actually prefer wearing dresses at this time of year rather than in the summer for that very reason. I picked up a few pairs of thick 80 denier tights from British brand Pretty Legs to wear with my skater dresses and knee-high boots, including a pair in chocolate brown - very on-trend for A/W 2014!

Tights dress up any outfit
Adding a pair of sheer tights can help your look go from daytime to a night out quicker than you can say ‘pull your tights up’. It’s a great way to add classic glamour to an evening dress and you don’t get any drafts like you do with stockings. I’ve got a couple of pairs of sheer tights from Pretty Legs UK in both black and natural tones to transform my legs for eveningwear throughout the party season. Plus, tights come in all kinds of colours, so can actually be the feature of your outfit – especially when paired with a little black dress!
Tights keep you warm
I’ve already talked about how your summer wardrobe can become snuggly and warm just by adding a pair of tights, but you can also wear them underneath your clothing as an extra layer. So if you’re wearing trousers to the office or jeans at the weekend, slip a pair of 40 denier tights on and you’ll feel the benefit as soon as you get outside – no more knocking-knees for you!
Tights are more than just tights
And finally, some tights are more hardworking than others. I’m talking about tights with built-in extras, such as body shaping, thermal layers, revitalising compression, smooth knit and control tops, all of which can help you feel even better in your party dress this Christmas.
