This Tuesday Shoesday I’ve been having a good look at the photos in the news from Barrack Obama’s 2013 Inauguration for his second term as America’s president. The main thing that caught my attention at the Presidential Inauguration Ball was the bright colours that attendees were wearing - including a large number of red dresses. Was it deliberate that many performers were wearing the same color as the first lady?
Alicia Keys wore a bright red dress to serenade the president at the piano and Ke$ha sported a patriotic red Paul & Joe suit to the charity benefit event. Or was it an awkward “oh, you’re wearing the same thing as me” situation as Michelle Obama met the other guests and performers wearing a ruby red Jason Wu gown?
Either way, it certainly got me thinking that scarlet is going to be an important color this season, and I wondered what the high street has in store to compete with the red Louboutins and Manolo Blahniks seen at the ball.
