Tuesday Shoesday ~ First Foot Forward in Fall: AW2014 Shoe Trends

By Cassiefairy @Cassiefairy

Maybe you feel like summer’s just begun – I know I do – but if you haven’t started to think about your Autumn/Winter wardrobe yet then you are FAR behind your favorite FROWers .

The first thing to update is your footwear, I’m a huge believer in updating a previous season’s look with a pair of standout statement shoes. Haven’t got to grips with the trends yet? Don’t panic, I’m here with everything you need to know.

The Fashionable Flat

Flats are huge this season, from ballet pumps to smoking slippers, and even the odd flatform – provided you keep it chic – everything’s permitted!

Stay on trend by giving your comfy options an unconventional twist. With patent, velvet and Perspex all putting in appearances on the catwalk.

The Ankle Boot

Casual leather ankle boots will be my footwear staple when it comes to updating summer pieces and making them work for the colder months. Go classic with a black leather Chelsea boot or wild with a monochrome buckled number. Cut out styles are everywhere, great for flashing a little flesh but keeping things practical with a little support too.

You won’t need a to spend a fortune either, the high street’s ankle boots are better than ever before, so why shell out hundreds of pounds when you don’t have to?

The Mid Height Heel

Fashion has a love/hate relationship with the kitten heels. This season everyone who’s anyone is sporting this marmite of all shoes. Stay super ladylike in this pair of pointed sling backs, part of the new ladies shoe collection at Jones the Bootmaker. They’ll look great paired with a fluid midi dress or skirt while it’s still warm and with an LBD and black opaques when things turn cooler.

Can’t quite balance in kitten heels? While I can manage perfectly fine in sky high stilettos, a kitten heel sees me off kilter more often than not. Fear not, practical blocked heel shoes are also everywhere for AW this year, just make sure you choose a pair with a modern twist, to make it clear they’re a style statement, and not a cast-off of your gran’s.
