Trying Out Coconut Oil

By Hollysbeautybox @hollysbeautybox
Coconut Oil seems to be doing the rounds right now. A bit like Argan Oil, Moroccan Oil and all those other oils, Coconut Oil seems to be a 'wonder' oil.
Trying Out Coconut Oil
It's important to point out that I never fall for silly 'wonder' products. I think they're gimmicky and are basically just another new way for brands to monetize on including the 'wonder' product in to their collection - a clever PR move perhaps, but not really my thing.  Having said that, show me some pretty packaging and I'm sold!
I was drawn to try coconut oil after realizing just how much Coconut is good for - skin, hair, nails, as an ear cleaner and even to cook with! On top of that this was 'Nana recommended' which is as good enough a reason as ever to try something out.
I had a wee look on Pinterest (addicted by the way..) and I found that thousands of people use it on their hair and it is said to help growth and to repair damage from bleach and heat. I was alllll for that so I got some from Boots and was excited to try it out.
When I got home, I heated 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of the coconut oil in the microwave (about 20 seconds maximum). I dipped the ends of my hair into the oil and then using my fingertips combed the remaining oil through the rest of my hair.
I left the oil on my hair for a couple of hours, then thoroughly washed my hair.
I dried my hair and I may as well have just left the oil in - it was so greasy! I think I either used too much or needed to wash my hair twice.
If you've used coconut oil - someone said I should use a clarifying shampoo - surely that will just strip all the oil from the hair and would be pointless using the coconut oil in the first place? Someone else suggested I use conditioner when I wash my hair and then shampoo my hair, but surely adding conditioner to my hair would make it worse?
Ahh so confusing! as always, advice would be appreciated!
