Trump's Pandemic Approval Bump Is Disappearing
The chart above reflects the results of the newest Monmouth University Poll -- done between April 30th and May 4th of a national sample of 808 adults, with a 3.5 point margin of error.
Americans tend to support their president in times of crisis. That was even true of Donald Trump. Although his job approval numbers have been upside-down since he was sworn into office, the public started to support him more as the pandemic took hold of the country. They public hoped Trump would understand the seriousness and grow into his job. The result was that his numbers almost equalized in March (46% approval to 48% disapproval).
Unfortunately, Trump did not grow into the job. Instead, his incompetence became even more evident. And as the public realized that, Trump's job approval numbers began to get worse -- going from a net approval of -2 in March to a net approval of -5 in April and -8 in May. The nation is realizing that Trump is simply incapable of doing a good job.
