Trump Overtakes Hillary in Poll for First Time 41% to 39%

As recently as in early March, polls had Hillary Clinton with a 41% to 36% advantage over Donald Trump.

But a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of 1,000 Likely Voters  conducted on April 27-28, 2016, found that for the first time, Trump is leading Hillary, 41% to 39%!

Here are the survey’s findings:

  • Overall, 41% of likely voters favor Trump, vs. 39% for Hillary.
  • 15% prefer some other candidate.
  • 5% are undecided.
  • 73% of Republicans and as much as 15% of Democrats favor Trump.
  • 77% of Democrats and a very perverse 8% of Republicans favor Hillary.
  • Among voters not affiliated with either the GOP or Democratic party, 37% favor Trump; 31% favor Hillary; 23% want neither Trump nor Hillary, but another candidate instead; 9% are undecided.
  • Among men, 48% favor Trump, 35% favor Hillary.
  • Among women, 44% favor Hillary, 34% favor Trump.
  • Trump has a small advantage among older voters, but does surprisingly well among voters under the age of 40, traditionally a reliable Democratic group. 38% of younger voters favor Hillary; 32% favor Trump; 25% want another candidate; 5% are undecided.
  • Among blacks, 71% want Hillary, only 9% favor Trump.
  • Among other racial minorities, 45% favor Hillary, 33% favor Trump.
  • Among whites, 48% favor Trump, 33% favor Hillary.
