More than expected snowfall may have been one of the factors causing a one vehicle semi-truck accident, Sunday on Interstate 44 according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. A 56 year old Doolittle, Missouri was driving the semi-truck and was killed when his truck slid off a highway exit ramp. The driver was eastbound on I-44 and exiting onto Interstate 270 around 11:30 a.m. according to the Missouri Highway Patrol. The Missouri Highway Patrol did not know to what extent the road conditions contributed to the accident.
The patrol reported that the driver was traveling off of the south edge of the roadway, then overcorrected and traveled off the north side of the road, striking a highway sign. The Fenton Fire Department responded and the Doolittle man was pronounced dead about an hour later at Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur.
Up to four inches of snow in some places made road travel treacherous. The forecast had called for little more than an inch.
