Genies Powers: Magic or Quantum Physics?
While most superheroes, wizards, aliens, robots, gods and genetically modified dystopian humans are capable of some amazing things; they are all still grounded within some set of rules/reality. Genies do have a small set of basic rules, but can otherwise create, conjure or do almost anything; all you have to do is wish for it. That’s a pretty awesome power to contain in 60,000 words or less. So when I stumbled onto a discovery about how tiny particles may know what is going to happen before it actually happens, I thought it might be my link from the genie world to reality. My central take away was that particles don’t actually become anything/anyone until they are observed. Remember the question; if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to see or hear it, does it still fall? Well, according quantum theory the answer is no; it only falls/makes a sound if someone knows, or something in the future knows, it is going to fall. There is also the famous Schrodinger’s Cat theory; if there is a cat in a box, it isn’t alive or dead until you open the box and look at it. Of course, that is simplifying it a bit, but my thought was; what if genies could manipulate these particles before they were observed? What if they could see the particles existing in space and time, before any human or animal could, and then nudge them into being? I mean, if Haley Joel Osment could see dead people, certainly genies could see quantum particles.
I did have to be careful, of course, of not turning my book into a really long thesis paper on quantum theory. I have come across a book or two that planted a non-fiction theme so deeply that it outweighed the actual story. As fascinated as I had become by quantum theory, I doubted that my book would become the catalyst to bridge the gap between particle behavior enthusiasts and, basically everyone else. I can only hope that it tickles the curiosity bone of some readers just a little bit. ABOUT THE BOOK
