I met this pretty mom this weekend in one of Modena’s small Piazza’s, Piazza Matteotti. It is a hotspot for family’s because there is a carousel, two small playgrounds, lots of space for chasing pigeons and a new Italian burger place (you heard that right!) that offers free kids meals for dinner.
I just had to take her picture for my real mom street style series, look at how pretty she is!!!! Wearing Dondup white jeans, a leather peplum jacket a deisgner t-shirt and Italy’s biggest running shoe trend of the moment – Philippe Model Shoes from France. Her look is totally cool.
One of the great things about this Piazza (square) is that it is surrounded by restaurants and the Italian parents (myself included) will go for lunch or dinner with their friends on the various patios that surround the Piazza while they let their kids play at the playground in the middle of the square. It’s easy to keep an eye on them, while also enjoying your lunch with friends, plus, if you need to check up on them….or urgently wrap a scarf around their necks because of a slight breeze, you can do so in a jiffy.
What I really like about this mom’s look is that she is comfortable enough to still be a mom! By keeping her bottom wear casual she is free to bend down & chase her kids. Essentially her look is a t-shirt, jeans and runners pulled together and made chic by her leather blazer and her perfectly coiffed hair!
Philippe Model : Luxury Shoes from France
I’ve mentioned before that in Italy cool sneakers are an essential element to any look now a days. Europe’s trending sneaker brand right now is French brand Philippe Model Shoes, have you heard of them?
They are not cheap and run anywhere from $188 to $700, sometimes you can find them on sale for 50% – 70% off here. We’re talking LUXURY running shoes and they are BIG right now in italy for men and women. You’ll noticed her stylish husband is also wearing Philippe Model runners to go with his perfectly casual weekend Italian dad look!
What crisis?
What’s the most expensive pair of running shoes that you own? Have you ever paid over $250 for runners? These shoes are made with premium leather, and I know people who ONLY own Philippe Model running shoes and swear by them for comfort and durability, but I’ve never actually tested them out myself. I do love their designs though, especially the retro 80s look (top row, bright blue for example!), and I would consider investing in a pair….on sale!
In Italy there is a lot of talk about the current financial crisis, however, the one thing ALL tourists note when they come to Italy is:
“They say that you’re in a recession, but everyone is dressed with designer clothes!”
This is true and not true!
There are well off Italians just like there are well off people in any country. You can’t really (but you kind of can) tell how much money someone has spent on their clothes just by looking at them. Many Italians look very presentable with very little money. I’ve written here about the Italian Regional Dress Codes, aka, how there is a style class division, between those that shop at the market, those that shop high street retail and those that shop luxury.
Believe me not everyone’s sneakers are Philippe Model, however, this brand IS one of the top trending right now in sporty footwear, and you’ll find them in all of the luxe boutiques throughout the country.
