Split up into four parts, here’s the first part of my actual trip to Bali. After a twenty-four hour trip, we landed in Bali and woke up in the most magical place…We’d planned our Bali route out quite carefully, which you can read about in my first post here. We kind of ventured in a horseshoe on the south of the island, moving from the east upwards and finishing in the west, but our first stop was sunny Sanur (well, everywhere was sunny really!). Sanur is a fishing village with the perfect balance of excitement and culture, with a relaxing element to it.
We stayed at the Puri Maharani Boutique Hotel and Spa for three nights, which was a ten-minute taxi ride from Sanur Beach. This wasn’t a great pain as taxis only cost us 40,000 IDR (about £2) but it meant we couldn’t walk down as our hotel was just off the main (and insane) road. Our hotel was lovely, luscious greenery, a beautiful pool, and a huge room. One of the first things I noticed was just how lovely the people were, everybody in Bali greets you with a huge smile and will do anything they can to make you feel welcome – they really are the most friendliest of people!
We spent the afternoons walking down the beachfront, which was so beautiful and full to the brim of fishing boats and locals standing in the water fishing away. The front is full of restaurants and places to grab a drink, we stopped off at Coco Bistro one afternoon and had cocktails and lunch whilst sitting on beanbags watching the world go by – absolute bliss! If you want somewhere to just relax on the beach with a Tequila Sunrise – this place is the one! It’s far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Denpasar, but still full of things to do!
With the beach and water being so beautiful as it was, we knew we had to get out there and do something! We had booked a morning trip to do a couple of activities, which started with parasailing – I was petrified! We legit just got harnessed up and the guy just said ‘run!’, the next thing, I’m up in the air with a speedboat pulling me along but the views were breathtaking, you could see the whole stretch of the beach – amazing. We then took a boat over to Nusa Dua to ‘Turtle Island’ to go to the conservation there where we met all the cute turtles and all sort of other animals which was really cool. We also booked to go snorkelling but the water was too rough, which was a shame!
One of the highlights food-wise was definitely The Fire Station, which is just off on of the main roads near the beach. It is run by a really cool guy who personally came and asked us how our food was, it has the most amazing and delicious food for brilliant prices. My partner opted for their signature burger, whilst I fell in love with the pork belly – insane (and also only SIX BLOODY POUND)!
So Sanur is definitely for you if you like to relax and go shopping and walking throughout the day and go for nice meals on the night time, perhaps not if you’re after a party. It was such a beautiful spot with a gorgeous beach to match!
