Being a lover of giant robots, namely Transformers, it isn’t much of a surprise that I see my fair share of Japanese figures.
Some are cool beyond belief and some are……..well some are odd.
Lets face it, Japan can come up with some pretty strange ideas when it comes to fantasy characters, not that it’s a bad thing!
There are cat girls with plane parts for legs, a guy sporting a girl instead of a hand, all sorts.
So it comes as no surprise to me that the Japanese would have such free thoughts when making Transformers, like making a rice cooker that transforms into a robot for example!
What has any of this got to do with food?
I present Gari-Gari kun!
Gari-Gari kun is a character made for the world of ice lollies, it has become so popular in Japan over the years, they have even released video games!
There have been some pretty cool pieces of Gari-Gari kun merchandise but this one has got to be by far, the best yet!
The transforming ice lolly, licensed by Transformers!
It comes in packaging not unlike the real ice lolly and the lolly itself is about life size!
Unfortunately I don’t have a real one to compare it too since I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t survive the trip from Japan to England!
Though it looks the part, to be honest, the flavor isn’t that good!
Luckily what it lacks in taste is made up for with transform-ability!
He comes with a small ice lolly of his own that clips into his weapons which can be stored on his back so there are no extras that might get lost and he has a jaw that slides back to make his massive mouth, even bigger!
Some of the lolly comes apart to be a lolly stick sword and an ice shield for Gari-Gari kun!
You may also notice that he is wearing different clothes to his usual!
He is dressed as Autobot leader and most well known Transformer, Optimus Prime!!
