Day 20: A – Z Challenge

Transformation happens,whether you like it or not.

“Sorrow prepares you for joy. It violently sweeps everything out of your house, so that new joy can find space to enter. It shakes the yellow leaves from the bough of your heart, so that fresh, green leaves can grow in their place. It pulls up the rotten roots, so that new roots hidden beneath have room to grow. Whatever sorrow shakes from your heart, far better things will take their place.” ― Rumi

Big changes suck.

Sometimes they leave us feeling as though we’re being boiled in oil. They often require more of us than we feel we have to give.

They ask us to stretch, to peel away the detritus, to rip open and drain whatever ails us. Remaining stuck may feel better (easier, more tolerable) in the short term. After all, it’s familiar. It’s comfortable.

Maybe we want to sit in our shitty pants. Maybe we don’t want to evolve.

However, there’s no life in remaining stuck. Life must move, or it ceases to be.

Earth School’s Not for Sissies.

The past three years have schooled me in radical change. Change has blasted and melted and stripped me raw.

I’ve gotten to the point where I wonder how much more transformation I can take.

I feel sometimes like I am being yanked through life by my hair.

To say it’s been a bumpy ride, is an understatement.

Spiritual Growth Ain’t Always Pretty. 

But I always come back to the notion, what’s the alternative?

Stasis?

No, thank you.

As much as change rubs me the wrong way at times, there’s a wiser, saner, more hopeful part of me that sees only growth, only good in it.

Proceed with Caution, but Proceed.

As I ponder more changes, there’s that bittersweet reminder:

This, too, shall pass. Whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.

Find the center. Find the light. Find the still small voice.

Find a way out by going within.
